Aborted Project: Tiegre and the Skeleton King

Every now and then there are Warmageddon projects that have been started and never see the light of day. This is a rare one that that been through several artists and still lies incomplete. The story is one of the Broadaxe Ruins. It was written by Jamal and stars Tiegre.

ORC DESIGNS BY BORIS KAY

Broadaxe is a story where Kinks joins Tiegre and she picks up the axe that you see in the East of Warmageddon. The story begins with orcs and that's basically as far as Boris Kay got with the script. We hope to work with him again on a Warmageddon project. Hopefully, it will involve lots of orcs.

ORCS by STEFANO CARDOSELLI

Yet another artist that didn't make it past the orcs was Heavy Metal artist Stefano Cardoselli. He was just too busy to complete the story.

Gerardo Fernandez made it well past designs and into the sequential pages. Above is a fight scene between Tiegre and Kiara and below is a scene featuring the Skeleton King. Everything we have is simply amazing.

Some day when Jamal is ready to once again tackle this epic project, we will return with a new artist and hopefully complete it. Until then it just sits gather dust as Jamal works on East of Warmageddon.

Changes ... Changes ... Changes...

There are some changes afoot here at Warmageddon central. The first change is test page here. The site used to send you to either the blog or a comic depending on what updated last. Now the site sends you to  a handy dandy page where you can see the most recent blog posts AND the most recent comic updates.

The second change is we've added the new Tiegre strip to the rotation of weekly strips. Tiegre: East of Warmageddon will feature the most recent adventures of Tiegre, Kiara, and Kinks. So you will have Eirian and Orumil on Tuesdays and Tiegre on Thursdays.

Additionally, we will doing more frequent blog updates. We had grand plans for the blog, but as time went by it fell by the wayside. We are once again optimistic about blogging more often and with more structure (especially since the blogs won't hide the most recent strips).

Starting Mondays and continuing every Monday we will bring a spotlight to sci fi and fantasy comic books and comic strips that  we are looking forward to and/or enjoy. This will be part preview and part review.

Fridays will see the focus turn back to Warmageddon and we will run art and stories and otherwise expand the land of Warmageddon with stories and wiki entries.

In other news, we created a Facebook page for our monthly  Thomas strip. Become a fan of Thomas at Facebook.

Over there, we are sharing small behind the scenes looks at the comic starting with the Agent of Chaos strip by Mike, Jamal and Steve.

Speaking of Mike and Jamal, they are headed to Pittsburgh Comicon April 23-25, so check out the convention appearances below to stay abreast of where we show up next.

Looking Back : The Lost Artists

These week in looking back, we're taking you way, way back and featuring the very first Warmageddon concept art. Way back in the beginning Jamal ran a web site called ComicsPortfolio.com and was able to contact artist who put together portfolios and ask them to do concept drawings. A lot of really interesting drawings came from these artists, however, the downside is that it was really informal and we don't really have names for all the artist.

So hop into the WayBack Machine and let's get started.

When Jamal contacted these artists, he gave them a simple concept and let them run with it. In this case is was female human warrior versus an orc in a swamp. The artist is Hillsman. I'm not sure if that's a first name, last name, or just online username. Coincidentally, these characters look very much like Trivun and Kiara who are featured on the cover to Warmageddon Illustrated #1.

Next up we have a war bot and a goblin duking it out in a swamp with art by Walton (not Jamal). Goblins were a subspecies of orcs that were essentially dwarf orcs. Along the way as we developed Warmageddon, these tiny creatures got left behind.

George Todorowski is up next with the heavily armored dwarf battling the heavily armored battle chicken. The battle chicken soon evolved into the more humanoid chicken that would become the bwangs. This is one of our absolute favorites of all the early Warmageddon art.

A giant meets armored human in this next piece by Starnes. If the human is a normal sized character, then this giant is HUGE, at least 18-20 feet! Warmageddon giants have been greatly reduced in size as the tallest would still be under 10 feet.

Here a female elf battles an orc in a forest with art by Kinjo. This piece of art has a style very similar to the current World of Warcraft comic book published by Wildstorm. The art for that is by Mike Bowden.

Last, but no least, we have a female elf with cybernetic bwangs by Juan Chav. This is the earliest appearance of bwangs. The problem here is the use of magic by the elf. Warmageddon is not known for it's magic usage as Jamal and Mike (Imboden) were very careful to avoid relying on magic to explain things. Like every thing in early Marvel could be traced back to radiation, every thing in Warmageddon can be traced to some pseudo-scientific solution.

And that's it for Looking Back this week.
