Rebuilding the Crumbling Empire with a Brat-Halla Review

Brat-Halla Volume 1 Two weeks ago, we suffered a huge drive crash which swiped out a lot of the Warmageddon material. We are still trying to access the damage, but we know for sure that the art of 2 stories have been completely lost. Those stories are Battle Royale by Nando Pinto (which was running on the site) and Raven's Town by Gerry Fernandez.

Battle Royale is a story that has been sitting in the Warmageddon vault for almost 5 years.  It was the final story of the transition of Ulmragha from mild mannered and pretty orc to ... well, to Ulmragha the fighter that catches the eye of THF. That story is now being rolled into a future ongoing story that we will present at a later date and the 9 pages that are now on the site will disappear tomorrow.

Raven's Town is a story that has been through at least 4 different artists. It's not a story that's important to the Warmageddon mythos, so it's one of those filler stories that will we assign some time in the future.

Starting tomorrow and running every Tuesdays AND Thursdays (until it's complete) is a 20 strip chapter of the adventures of Mik'l of Jobus featuring Tiegre.

Brat-Halla Volume 1
by Jeffrey Stevenson and Seth Damoose

Brat-Halla is a concept that we wish that we'd come up with first. It's a humorous comic that follows the Norse gods when they were kids. You have young Thor with his brothers, Balder, Hod, Heimdal, and Loki. You have Frig and Odiin. There's a plethora of gods and goddess with predefined relationships and personality quirks that Stevenson uses to great effect.

Brat-Halla is a web comic that started at Kevin Smith's Movie Poop Shoot web site with colors by Warmageddon's very own, L Jamal Walton. You can get all these adventures online, but if you order from Bull Citu Comics, Jamal has 50 very special issues of Brat-Halla Volume 1 in which he is drawing 50 sketches.

Keeping It Together and a Review of Groo

Keeping It Together
The desire to keep things in a neat and orderly fashion occasionally leads to hilarious results. The story behind Keeping It Together is that Jamal had this rash that was being treated by a cortisone ointment. Unfortunately, the tube of cortisone and the tube of glue looks strikingly familiar. The color of the 2 fluids within the tubes were strikingly familiar. It wasn't until Jamal squirted the "ointment" into his hand and began to spread it unto the rash that he realized that there was something wrong with his "ointment". That realization came too late as he had already spread the rapidly curing glue to the rash. From that experience, Keeping It Together was born. Incidentally, this one of the first strips where Thomas's antics can be attributed to a mistake.

Groo: The Hogs of Horder
Groo is a creator owned series of mini series published by Dark Horse Comics, lettered by Stan Sakai, colored by Tom Luth, scripted by Mark Evanier, and drawn (and written) by Sergio Aragones. Groo has been published regularly since 1982 by a series of publishers and is a sword and sorcery parody. Groo is renown for his skill with the sword, lack of intelligence and his knack for causing accidents.

The overall series has used humor to touch on many different topics over the years. With the Hogs of Horder, Aragones and crew parody a lot of recent events from the war in Iraq, the economic collapse, government buyouts, and even the exodus of US manufacturing job. As you can see this series covers a lot of ground. Unfortunately, you can't cover so many sensitive topics with sucha  break neck pace (this is a collection of four issues) without the tale becoming preachy and overbearing. We at Warmageddon Central love a good Groo tale, this just wasn't a particularly good one.

The Art of Gerald Lange

Gerald Lange provided the character designs for the mandrake, mandragora, yeti and sasquatch. We've seen the sasquatch once and the other will be showing up in future tales East of Warmageddon.
